Kick start your summer health regime with this delicious and refreshing juice.

Mint has many health benefits and is especially very good for stomach disorders. I have also heard mint is good for treating pimples, for that the pulp of fresh leaves are used, so make sure you start growing Mint in your GreenSmart pot! This juice should be taken fresh, otherwise it's color and taste will change a l ittle. RECIPE Serves 4 2 heaping cups of ice 1 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 4 large lemons) 1/2 cup mint leaves plus a few more to garnish 4-6 tablespoons sugar (or to taste) Juice the lemons, and remove the mint leaves from the stalks. Dump all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth. Serve garnished with mint. Note - You may need to adjust the sugar quantity to your own taste bud. Grow all your herbs in our GreenSmart pots as they are among the easiest plants to grow!

Annuals and perennials are in full bloom making pot plants and garden beds a riot of colour. Herbs and vegetables are also in bloom which is great news for pollinating bees – we need bees to produce seeds and fruit for us to eat.

With bees in the garden, avoid spraying any pesticides when they are active. If you want to encourage more bees and other beneficial insects into the garden, grow a wide range of daisy flowers; allow herbs and winter vegetables to go to seed; and grow both native and non-native plants.

Longer, sunnier and warmer days mean garden plants are growing at full pace. This is when you need to look for early signs of stress caused by lack of soil nutrients or lack of water. Keep those vegetables pumped up with rich organic compost and fertilisers to boost productivity.

Your GreenSmart pots need to be checked every few days to make sure they are not drying out due to impressive spring growth.

Spring heralds a burst of fresh interest in the garden and vegetable patch. This is a great month to get stuck into gardening.  After the long winter, gardeners can assess where new gardens can be created, more pots can be positioned and how more edibles can be incorporated into the garden. Your GreenSmart pot is perfect for this !!

If your going to the Perth Royal Show from 1 0ct - 8 Oct, check out our GreenSmart stall located in the Shopping & Lifestyle Pavilion, North Precinct.  Our guys in the West will be very happy to see you.

August is the last month of winter with many areas of Australia having a few frosts whilst other climate zones in Australia are enjoying balmy days and nights.

Winter and spring flowering bulbs will be appearing and gardeners are preparing their plots and pots for planting new season vegetables and flowers. This is the best month to invigorate your existing GreenSmart potted vegetables with a boost of organic fertilisers or rock minerals. Rock minerals are slow release natural forms of nutrients that permaculture and organic gardeners add to their soils.

Keep a watch for snails and slugs at this time of year when all the seedlings are plump and delicious. Use copper tape around your GreenSmart pots to keep these pests at bay

July is the coldest month for all regions of Australia. For gardeners the biggest fear is frost damaging the vegetable patch, the ornamental garden plants and productive fruit trees. In many rural districts it is common to see farmers turning on their irrigation systems early in the morning to wet down their crops - this reduces frost damage. This is a simple technique we can all use in our home gardens.

Winter can be a dry season for many parts of Australia so keep a watchful eye on your garden plants and your GreenSmart pot. A potted plant on a windy day can show stress in less than 24 hours.

June is the first month of winter which typically represents the slowest growth season for plants.  In the edible garden it’s time to think about crops for soups and stews and steamed vegetables with roasts.

If early frosts have been forecasted, protect your sensitive edible crops with a spray of seaweed solution. With your GreenSmart® pot, think about moving it to a more protected position in your garden that still gets plenty of sunshine, but protected from winds and frost.

May is the last month of Autumn, so you can now get your GreenSmart pot ready for the start of wonderful winter veggies and herbs.

In all regions, except the tropics you can start planting Snow Peas, and it will only take on average 10 weeks produce your harvest !!!  For the tropics try pak choy and bok choy and you will have green leafy veggies in no time.  With herbs, mint is a robust plant to withstand winter in all locations, best to plant this in a pot on its own to contain it.
